Savage commute to work // 53 km each way!

I had this special idea in my head for a while and it was about time to make my move: cycle to work to Budapest in the morning and then cycle back home in the aftrenoon. It was definitely the longest commute by bike I ever done!

It's a nice 53 km long trip each way. It is flat enough and mostly on good roads. Luckily I picked a nice day for it, so it was a pleasant journey I have to say.

Back home after work

Now, the 53 km isn't an impressive distance at all I think but to have it done twice...on my XC bike...and both ways just under the 2 hours barrier definitely felt like something that I would call "a productive day". :)

It was a good cycle and I would love to do it again some time!!

Homemade Tubeless Inflator

I've seen a very interesting article a few days ago. It was about how to make a tubeless inflator. I don't normaly jump on these things but after I finished up reading I decided I'll give this a try. I don't have a compressor in my bike shed, so I think it definitely worth a try!

Everything's here, let's do it!

  • 1 x plastic bottle
  • 2 x presta valves (I used tubeless valves instead of valves cut out of old tubes)
  • 1 x plastic clip
  • 30 cm of plastic pipe (from my local pet store)
  • some insulating tape

Drilled 2 holes, tightened up 2 valves, taped up the pipe and put the whole inlator together. It was ready to be tested in about 10 minutes! Quite quick little project, isn't it?!

Here it is, my brand new homemade tubeless inflator

The first pressure test, everything seems to be fine

So, I hope with the help of this homemade inflator I can make tubeless tyre fitting smoother and easier in the future. Test results will be posted, stay tuned! :)

Am I ready for this?...I'm not sure...

Alright, summer is here they say. This is a great news as it is but my worries started to raise lately. I have to realize that after living in Ireland for so long I'm not as used to the proper hot summer as I was before...

...stone splitting sun, super hot days, mega-dry conditions are all very nice indeed but they are out of my comfort zone big time! It's feels too hot to me, suffering both on and off the bike...and it's not even properly summer yet!!

I never thought it's gonna happen but here it is: at this point I kinda miss the misty 13 degrees with some rain and mud up to my knees that I'm used to in Ireland. :)

PS.: to all my mates living in Ireland, please don't hate me! :)

Sunday's Adventure Spin

Today was one of those days when I just couldn't resist: picked my favourite Bullet For My Valentine playlist and I took every unknown turn on the way in order to find new trails near my place. And I have to say the plan worked out well!

I can't help it but I simply love these rides. Riding on trails that I never seen before without knowing where they gonna take me. Finding savage climbs, brutal fast descents and getting to places in the middle of the nowhere. Lovely!

I went out for a solid 2 hours 30 minutes ride this afternoon and I managed to link together some of my favourite places via brand new trails. Good trails they are, I'm sure they'll be used again soon!

Thursday evening staff spin // HHH, Budapest

It's nice to finish work, get up to the mountains and go for a mountain bike ride with you colleagues. This is exactly what happened this evening: we had a nice MTB spin with the lads from the office.

The destination was the well known and famous HHH in Budapest. It is a lovely spot indeed and on the top of that riding there was a blast from the past for me. Have been racing so many times on these trails and it was absolutely brilliant to ride them again!!

Luckily the weather was good also which was a gift considering the crazy weather that we've seen lately. Nice to be lucky, isn't it? :)

Sunset in the Pilis mountains

So, I'm only back home and still buzzing after this short but fun spin. Great mountains, savage trails, cood company...what more you could wish for? Oh, I know! A dinner would be nice, so I'm off to grab something nice to eat! Happy out!! :)

Productive weekend

Something happened this weekend...something that hasn't happend for a long time: I got out for training twice! Yes, it is a big news these days as I'm feeling lucky to be able to maintain my training with solid once a week session.

I had a savage MTB spin, a real XC action on Thursday early morning and had a half  MTB half road session today thanks to the brutal conditions up in the mountains after the recent heavy rain.

During the two spins I've spent 4 hours and 40 minutes on the bike, covered the total distance of  87 km with 1350 m of elevation gain.

Could be more but also could be less! So, let's appreciate what I have and be happy! The main thing is that I've had brilliant time on the bike and felt so freakin' amazing to be able to head out 2 times in 3 days!!

The Bike Shed Project // Part 3

The Bike Shed Project has come to an end slowly over the last few weeks. Today I managed to put the final touch on it!

There's always room to improve but at this point I can say that I have a Shed that I was planning to have for a long time. I'm happy with it and I look forward to the countless messing-around-with-my-bike-out-in-the-shed hours out here! :)
